Introduction from the new CatN guy
By Huw Davies Thursday, 5th April 2012
So this is the end of my first week as Product manager here at CatN and there has been a lot to learn and do! I come from a Hosted Exchange background and while there are plenty of similarities there is also a lot of new stuff to learn here which is great!
I’ve been in one of the DC’s moving a SAN and installing servers, helping me get a better understanding of the hardware side of the business, as well as getting the lowdown on the existing services and services being launched over the next 6 months. I’ve also got to grips with writing wiki articles and learnt the basics of wiki mark-up language.

Decommission servers; securely destroying data and recycling
By Nicola Asuni Tuesday, 21st February 2012
Server decommissioning with an eye to protecting data and saving the environment
Here at CatN HQ we have invested quite a lot of time, effort and money in upgrading our server capabilities in advance of launching the new version of vCluster on our new infrastructure. One of the consequences of this is that we now have some old servers that need to be decommissioned.
This presents a problem in that there are quite a few regulations that need to be followed with regard to Electronic and Electrical Equipment waste and securely removing data from the disks.

The dangers of budget, shared hosting
By Joe Gardiner Friday, 26th August 2011
There are plenty of web hosting companies offering low cost shared hosting that has continued to get cheaper over recent years. Cheap web hosting is particularly prevalent in the US where bandwidth is much cheaper than the UK and Europe.
Shared hosting is the most profitable way of offering a hosting service, as lots of customers can be hosted on a single physical server. However there are numerous drawbacks to choosing a shared web host purely based on price. Before choosing your web host consider that a cheaper provider may end up costing you more in terms of time as well as money.

CatN Hosting for Beginners
By Joe Gardiner Friday, 15th October 2010

Let’s imagine a USB thumb drive. You’ve probably used one, and you can just plug it into your computer and copy files onto it. The great thing about a usb thumb drive is that you can carry it with you and you can view your files on a computer anywhere as long as you have the thumb drive with you.

Now imagine all the files that make up your website are on that thumb drive and instead of carrying it around with you, you give it to a company who plug it into one of their powerful computers that is connected to the internet. Now you can view your website files from anywhere as long as you’re connected to the internet.
