Junior Project Manager
Job description
This is an excellent opportunity to join the innovative, start-up web hosting company CatN which is growing rapidly and looking to recruit a Junior Project Manager to join the existing commercial team.
Are you a driven business person looking to make their mark on a rapidly growing and successful start-up that is creating disruptive web hosting products?
You will be involved in the development of the CatN business, brand, and the products we currently offer. The position will include a range of activities including dealing with client commercial issues, marketing, SEO, creating proposals and quotes, and attending events.
About the position
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Work with the Head of Product to build awareness of the CatN brand,
- Assist with producing quotes and proposals for clients,
- Deal with suppliers to procure IT equipment,
- Write content such as blog posts for the CatN website,
- Contribute to the CatN SEO campaign and work with the in-house SEO team,
- Work with the support team and liaise with clients on the status of issues,
- Help define and develop the CatN message, and the products we offer,
- Attend industry events in order to promote CatN offerings.
The successful candidate will have the following demonstrable skills:
- Experience working in a highly demanding business environment,
- Excellent organisational and time keeping skills,
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills,
- Ability to understand and explain complex concepts to clients and colleagues,
- Experience in bid based procurement,
- Experience working on SEO and online marketing campaigns,
- Good HTML and CSS skills,
- Experience in the IT industry, particularly in web hosting is an advantage.
The salary will normally be in the range of £16k – £20k depending upon skills and experience.
A degree is not essential, but you should be able to demonstrate your experience in the above areas. Training in the form of mentoring will be provided to successful applicants.
PHP Systems Developer
Job description
An exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing, innovative web hosting start-up as a PHP Systems Developer. You will work with the existing infrastructure and platform development teams to create innovative, disruptive software that will form the core of our customer facing offerings.
Are you enthusiastic, innovative, and passionate about working in a creative team? Do you have experience writing back end systems in PHP and MySQL?
About the Position
Your main tasks will focus on further development of the back-end system powering our hosting products: working to integrate existing user and payment systems, develop new products and product add-ons and enhance the range of functionality available to customers via our control panel.

Main Responsibilities
- Working with the existing development team to design and build new features and products for our hosting systems.
- Iteratively improve the PHP system code of our hosting products.
- Work with the API to integrate partner offerings into our existing products.
- Develop and maintain the existing MySQL databases of user and product information.
- Day to day task and time management.
- Report to the Head of Platform Services, presenting completed objectives and future plans.
- Devising innovative solutions to problems reported by end users and customers.
- Supporting existing customers as they use and test our products.
The salary will normally be in the range of £25k – £30k depending upon skills and experience.
Required Knowledge
- Excellent PHP & MySQL OOP programming ability.
- Experience of the Zend Framework.
- Intermediate LINUX systems engineering knowledge with strong knowledge of the UNIX shell.
- Good understanding of XML & AJAX, cURL and data mining techniques.
- Experience working in a LAMP stack with experience installing and configuring the LAMP (Apache, MySQL, PHP) packages.
- Very strong problem solving skills.
- Able to work independently with excellent organisation and time management skills.
- Previous experience using the SCRUM methodology of working.
- Experience working in the web hosting industry.

Linux Systems Engineer
Job description:
We are looking for bright and highly motivated individuals with a strong Linux background to join our engineering team. The successful applicants will play a key role in developing and supporting our cloud hosting infrastructure in a fast-paced, high traffic web environment.
About the position:
Through our CatN subsidiary, we are developing an innovative cloud hosting platform (vCluster & pCluster) and we are looking for skilled Linux Engineers to join our growing team and contribute to its success.
Working alongside our existing Linux & PHP gurus, you will be involved in the development of our CatN hosting control systems. The position will include a range of “systems-” activities including installation, monitoring, maintenance and optimisation of hundreds of servers across multiple data centres – using automation tools such as cobbler and zabbix.
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate strong scripting skills in BASH and Perl, plus ideally some experience with one or more other languages commonly used in the Linux environment such as C/C++, Python, PHP,Ruby etc.
The successful applicant will also be responsible for researching and developing ways to improve our existing infrastructure in areas such as process automation and performance optimisation. There will also be an aspect of support, assisting the first and second line tech support teams as we develop our new web hosting service and ramp up our operations.
The salary will normally be in the range of £25k – £40k depending upon skills and experience.
Required Knowledge:
For this role, you will need knowledge and experience relating to the following technologies:
- Programming Skills – Bash, C, PHP
- MySQL Replication
- Open Virtualisation technologies – KVM, OpenVZ, LXC
- Enterprise storage – NAS, SAN, NFS, iSCSI, FCP
- Deployment Automation – Cobbler, Kickstart Templates
- Version Control – Git, Subversion
- Common Web Services – HTTP, PHP, MySQL, SSL, SMTP, SSH, FTP, DNS
- Security – Firewalls, Intrusion Detection, DDoS Mitigation, SELinux
- Networks – Switching, Routing, Load balancing
A degree is not essential, but you should be able to demonstrate your experience in the above areas. Certifications such as RHCSA, RHCE, CCNA will also be useful but are not required.
