Bandwidth
By Joe Gardiner Monday, 12th April 2010
Bandwidth refers to the use of data communication resources, such as data transfer, in multiples of bits. E.g. kilobytes, gigabytes etc... In the context of web hosting, bandwidth is often used to describe the amount of data being transferred from server to client, for example, you may be allowed 5GB of bandwidth per month. Technically speaking this is incorrect, and should be called data transfer, not bandwidth. Bandwidth consumption is not the amount of data being transferred but rather the amount of a connection being consumed by successful throughput of data.
