File Transfer Protocol. FTP is a network protocol that enables file transfer and manipulation over the internet, specifically a TCP/IP based network. FTP was originally a command line interface protocol, but there ere now many FTP client programs available that use a graphical user interface, or are written into the operating system.
An FTP client is the program used “drag and drop” files between a users local system, and their storage space on a server, in the case of CatN, their vCluster. We recommend using FileZilla as an FTP client with a graphical user interface, as the program is free to use (open source), and is cross platform, so it can be used on any operating system.
FTP is usually secured with a username and password, that is required for the user to open a connection from their client computer to the server. The username and password is required to be supplied when initiating the connection over the FTP port 21.
