The London INternet eXchange is an internet exchange based in London. An internet exchange is a physical location, where internet service providers exchange information across their respective networks. An internet exchange point allows direct connections to transit providers, reducing the amount of traffic that is sent over a third party, and offering numerous advantages.
Traffic sent of an internet exchange is usually free, where as using an upstream transit provider will incur costs. Traffic sent between ISP’s will reduce latency as the route is normally the fastest possible, and networks on different continents can be bridged using an internet exchange. In areas with under-developed long distance data networks, connections to an internet exchange will reduce the cost and performance decrease associated with offering high speed internet to long distance locations.
At CatN we are connected to the the London Internet Exchange, so enjoy the benefits outlined above.
