Load Balancer

By Joe Gardiner Monday, 12th April 2010

A load balancer is a network device that distributes traffic evenly to another layer of nodes on the network. As the traffic comes into the load balancer the traffic is distributed evenly to the web server nodes, ensuring that all resources use is optimal, response  and processing time is minimal, and overloads are avoided. Load balancers are often used in clustered computing whether it be super computer or web hosting clustering. Any situation that requires the control of traffic or requests can use a load balancer.
