Peering
By Joe Gardiner Tuesday, 13th April 2010
Peering is the connection of two networks for purpose of the networks customers to exchange data. As the two peering party’s will be generating revenue from their customers using their networks, peering should be cost free.
Peering enables network users to enjoy increased performance, as direct connections can be made without taking third party routes, and avoiding bottle neck network locations. Networks also have less dependency on transit providers, as if a provider goes down, connections can continue to be made through the peering partner. Much larger quantities of traffic can be handled by a peering network, as the traffic can be distributed across numerous routes, lowering the dependency on direct transfers.
At CatN we peer with numerous partners, available to view here: http://www.robtex.com/as/as35456.html#peer.
