Backup Generators

Leading developers know that success depends upon the reliability of their platform, eben in emergency situations. The CatN data centre is protected against power failures to ensure hosted sites and applications stay live.

Our data centre is supported by an AKSA(AJD 200) which automatically runs within 3 minutes of a power failure, removing the load from the UPS backup. The generator is a powerful, fuel injected, four stroke, water cooled engine that runs on diesel fuel. There are large supplies of extra fuel on site, and arrangements with suppliers in the case of shortages.

Maintenance and regular testing is vital, as having a generator on site does not necessarily mean it will always work! Every week we run a full generator test, closely monitoring results and test stats such as oil pressure and starter battery voltage.

Every second week we run a power cut test, isolating our entire data centre from the power grid. These extreme tests ensure that we can survive extreme situations such as complete power failures.
