Substation
Due to the high demand of the CatN data centre the electrical supply from the power grid needed to be increased. Fortunately a sub station is positioned next door to the CatN data centre making the process of increasing supply relatively simple.
Large high capacity cables were required in order to increase capacity of the power coming into the data centre. These cables were first fed into our independent power meter shed, allowing us to track power usage at the data centre usage point and the flow from the sub station.
This close monitoring allows us to be completely transparent with our customers and puts control back in the hands of your system admins, just the way they like it!
Before updating power supply all cables entered the building through a small meter with no separation between office and data centre supply. As you can see in the diagram we now have two cables supplying the data centre which is entirely separate from the office supply. This adds redundancy and capacity through the two cables for the data centre.
All power flow into the data centre runs through the UPS batteries which guarantee consistent flow preventing power surges from damaging equipment and picking up the load in the case of separation from the grid until the power generator automatically engages.
